Failure to diagnose brain haemorrhage case settles for £450k

Brendan Kearney & Company recovered substantial damages on behalf of a client who received negligent treatment for a brain aneurysm. Following her attendance at hospital with severe headaches and blurred vision our client was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm and underwent intensive medical treatment.

Following her discharge from hospital our client believed she may have suffered an unnecessary delay in her care as she felt there were concerning changes of direction in her care whilst at hospital. Accordingly, she contacted our office, and we went about investigating the issues around her medical care.  A multitude of medical specialities were engaged by us in this case given the complex injuries. Our independent medical experts found that there was an unacceptable delay in carrying out necessary diagnostic tests and, critically, that the delay caused serious further injury to our client. Medical evidence was obtained from a Consultant Physician, Ophthalmic Surgeon, Consultant Neurologist, Clinical Psychologist, Nursing Care Specialist and a Speech and Language Therapist.

Liability was denied by the legal team presenting the Healthcare Trust however pre-hearing negotiations were successful, and our client was delighted with the outcome and compensation of £450,000 achieved which included a substantial element for future care needs due to ongoing and long-term health issues.
