There has been a recent study carried out between the Universities of Manchester, Sheffield and York which outlines that over 200 million medication errors occur in the NHS per year.
There are two main categories of wrongful prescription errors, which are:
- Dispensing Errors - usually from the Pharmacy in the form of handing out the wrong medication or labelling medication incorrectly.
- Prescribing Errors – these errors relate to prescribing the wrong dosage of medication or prescribing medication which causes an adverse reaction.
